Separate two meanings of towing
Moving a disabled car and using a car to pull a trailer are different tasks. This guide primarily addresses roadside recovery. A towbar advertisement or another country’s towing figure does not prove your vehicle is approved to pull a trailer. For trailer use, confirm the vehicle’s homologated limits, hitch approval, installation and local requirements before ordering equipment or planning a load.
- Tell the dispatcher clearly whether the car needs recovery or you are asking about trailer use.
- Do not substitute a recovery eye for an approved trailer hitch.
Secure people and assess the scene
Follow local roadside safety procedures and use emergency services when there is immediate danger. Report smoke, unusual heat, hissing, leaks, a battery-underbody impact or water exposure before anyone starts recovery. Damage to a high-voltage battery can present delayed hazards, so a quiet vehicle is not proof that the battery is safe. Do not touch orange cables or attempt to open, isolate or cool a damaged pack yourself.
- Give a precise location, traffic situation and whether anyone is injured.
- Stay in a safe location and follow emergency responders’ instructions rather than remaining near a suspect battery.
Give the dispatcher a vehicle-specific brief
State original market, model year, exact version and drivetrain, and identify battery-electric or plug-in hybrid. In our Chinese reference, 8X and 9X are plug-in hybrids, unlike the battery-electric 001, 7X and 009. Explain whether the vehicle rolls, steers, releases its parking brake and responds electrically. Do not assume the dispatcher knows the dimensions or mass from the badge alone.
- Send access limits such as garage height, ramp angle, confined space and the vehicle’s current stance.
- Provide the vehicle-specific manual or rescue information, sharing the VIN privately where needed.
Ask for a loading plan, not a rope-tow guess
Ask the recovery operator to confirm the manufacturer-approved transport method for the exact car and suitable equipment capacity. A flatbed may be an appropriate option, but loading preparation still matters: locked wheels, low clearance and steering restrictions may require specialist equipment. Do not assume selecting neutral permits road towing, or that lifting one axle is acceptable for every drivetrain.
- Have the operator confirm attachment points, loading clearance and wheel-management equipment.
- Do not attach straps or hooks to suspension parts, battery components or an unverified point beneath the car.
Tow mode and low-voltage recovery are version-specific
Any transport or tow mode must follow the correct manual and its operating conditions. A screen that will not wake may prevent a normal electronic procedure; it is not permission to force the selector or parking brake. Do not copy a jump-terminal location or power-supply sequence from another ZEEKR. Air-suspension preparation and winching instructions also require the actual vehicle’s documentation.
- Tell the operator which normal controls remain available and which warnings are displayed.
- If the procedure cannot be verified, request appropriate specialist recovery rather than trial-and-error electrical work.
Document delivery to the receiving workshop
Before loading, photograph visible damage and record battery percentage if safely available, warning messages and belongings handed over. Give the workshop a factual timeline including impact or flooding, not a self-diagnosis of a failed battery. A vehicle with suspected battery damage needs a receiving facility prepared for that condition; a generic indoor parking destination may be unsuitable.
- Confirm the receiving location, contact person and that the recovery condition has been disclosed.
- Retain recovery records, photographs and the workshop’s instructions about moving, charging or storing the car afterwards.
